Reaping is Reason and Motivation for Sowing

Many have never been taught to sow with an expectation of a return. Thousands have been taught that it is wrong to expect something in return when you give to God. They feel that this is proof of greed. “When I give to God, I expect nothing in return!” is the prideful claim of many who have been trapped by tragic and erroneous teaching. You can only do what you know. If you do not know that it is your right to expect a return, then you cannot receive a return. Conscious giving is crucial to increase wealth.

Stripping expectation from your seed is theft of the only pleasure that God knows. Remember, His greatest pleasure is to be believed. His greatest pain is to be doubted. “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6). Faith in God includes believing that he rewards you for seeking him. You must believe in the reward otherwise God calls it lack of faith and you failed to please Him.

Motive means the reason for doing something. When someone is on trial accused of murder, prosecutors try to find the possible motive or reason for doing so. God expects you to be motivated by supply, the promise of provision. “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.” (Luke 6:38). God offers overflow as a reason for sowing of seed! God promised you a harvest in order to motivate you to sow a seed.

“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” (Proverbs 3:9-10). Notice that God paints the picture of filled barns and overflowing winepresses to motivate us (give us a reason) for honoring Him. You honor God through the act of giving. God is a giver and giving expresses the nature of God most of all. There is he that scatters and yet increases. To give is to be in the Cycle of the Source.

He promised benefits to those who might be fearful about tithing. “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10). God wants you to test his nature most of all in the area of giving. Giving is the greatest act of believing in God. God’s greatest act was in the giving of his Son to us.

Read Deuteronomy 28:1-14. God speaks a list of specific blessings that will occur if you obey Him. Why does He state the blessings for obeying Him? To motivate you and give you a reason to obey. Peter needed this kind of encouragement just like us today. He felt such emptiness as he related to Christ that he and the others had “give up everything.” Jesus promised him a one hundredfold return. When you serve God by giving your gifts and service to a higher cause, you have the right to expect harvest.

“Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.” (Mark 10:28-30). You can never out-give God himself.

Reaping is the reason for sowing. Giving is the cure for greed, not hoarding. When you sow to get a Harvest, you have just mastered greed. The nature of God is the giving nature. When you give, you have just expressed the nature of God within you. It also takes faith to expect a return from your giving. An exchange of goods is not giving but a trade. When you give, it is a one way thing without requiring reciprocal return from the same source. The act of giving is the belief in the true nature of abundance of God.

When Jesus talked to the woman at the well of Samaria, He promised her water that she would never thirst again. Was he wrong to offer her something if she pursued him? Of course not. That was the purpose of the promise of water, to motivate her and give her a reason for obeying him. Therefore never feel bad about doing something good for the motivation of receiving the blessing of God. Do not think it’s selfish. He that comes to God must believe that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

Millions must unlearn the poisonous and treacherous teaching that it is wrong to expect anything in return. Expectation is the powerful current that makes the seed work for you. Your harvest requires faith, not merely a seed. Your seed is what you sow. Your faith is why it multiplies. God responds to your seed because it is wrapped with faith. He wants to be believed. He responds to faith anywhere He finds it. Sow frequently to continually exercise your faith. Every act of giving is a chance to exercise faith.

One of the reasons people do not experience a supernatural abundant harvest in finances is because they do not really expect God to do what He said He would do. When you sow with expectation, your “seed” will stand before God as a testimony of your faith and confidence. Sow, expecting God to respond favorably to every act of confidence in Him. “He that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Sow and believe God responding with favor.[/hidepost]
