Humility Sustains and Increases Prosperity
Humility is the reason why we increase in prosperity and pride is the reason why we lose what we have. If you want to know the secret why the rich and successful lose their riches and success, the answer is because of pride. The Bible says “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.†Remember to trust in God who gives you richly all things to enjoy. Success can create false security.
God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. When Satan wants to attack you, he would use pride as a prime weapon. When Satan stood up against Israel, he provoked David to number Israel. When David looked to the size and power of Israel’s forces as the basis of victory, he was becoming proud and thus losing the grace of God. The way to resist the devil is by submitting to God and receiving grace.

This astounding revelation is spoken by God “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, says the LORD.†The only thing that you attribute the highest honor to is towards knowing God and to boast of His goodness in your life.
Except the LORD build the house, they that build it labor in vain. Except the LORD keep the city, the watchman wakes but in vain. Realize that all action that ultimately succeeds, has God in it. Whenever the LORD is with anyone, that person is always successful in the situation and over opposing forces. Evil may have its effect on reality but it always takes God to ultimately overcome it. You cannot fail when you have God, and you cannot ultimately succeed without God. Honor God for him to prosper you.
Be aware not to forget the true source of your prosperity. Otherwise when your possessions multiply, your finances multiply and all that you have is multiplied, then your heart is lifted up and you forget the Lord your God which delivered you from lack and brought you riches, and you say in your heart that your power and the might of your hand had gotten you this wealth. But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he that gives you power to get wealth in order to establish the covenant he had sworn.
God had sworn to Abraham saying “Blessing will I bless you, and multiplying will I multiply you.†It is a covenant of prosperity. God creates a covenant so that your faith in him regarding prosperity will have greater firmness. Covenant is about rights. God wants to give you the right to blessing and prosperity. Righteousness and rights is the way of heaven. When you know your rights to prosperity is from God and not of yourself, you have humility. Pride comes before a fall, therefore humility comes before rise.
The King in the book of Daniel spoke in pride about his own achievements. He said “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?†Immediately a voice from heaven came and said “The kingdom is departed from thee.†You lose what you have gained when you attribute it all to your own power. King Nebuchadnezzar lost his intelligence and became as a beast and was driven from men. Man is meant to understand the divine.
At the end of the judgment, Nebuchadnezzar lifted up his eyes unto heaven, and his understanding returned unto him, and he blessed the most High, and praised and honored him saying “All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What are you doing?†At the same time his reason returned unto him and he regain his kingdom and gained majesty.
You gain understanding when you look to the higher realms. You lose it when you look only to the lower realms. You regain what you have lost through pride when you honor God once again. This is the goodness of God. Now Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven saying “all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.†Remember that what God does is righteous and true. God enforces His will according to his divine intelligence.
There are Watchers that watch over the affairs of men and exercise judgment on those who are proud. Daniel said “This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever he will, and sets up over it the basest of men.†All judgments of pride are for the purpose of teaching Man that it is God who rules and gives prosperity to who he wills, especially the meek.
The meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. The crown of the wise is their riches. What is the wisdom of the wise that bring prosperity? The Bible says “Honoring the Lord is wisdom.†What man is he that honors the LORD? Him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. His soul shall dwell in prosperity; and his seed shall inherit the earth. Honor the Lord with your substance, with your praises and your giving.[/hidepost]
