To be a ruler of your reality, you need to know how to have wise counsel. When there is no counsel, a leader would fall. In the multitude of counsel, there is safety. Think of yourself as a prince or a princess and your world as your kingdom. The people that you associate with most closely are your royal advisors. The way you relate with this group of people will determine the strengthening or downfall of your kingdom. Knowing how to seek advice from others wisely is a very important aspect of sovereignty.

Every purpose is established by counsel. Without counsel, purposes are disappointed. You may have an idea, a goal or a dream but you need to talk to the right people about it in order to establish it as something definite to pursue. The desire to talk to others about a move you think about making is a natural urge to seek counsel. In the multitude of counselors, purposes are established. The universe would always reinforce what is divinely inspired to you by counsel from the right people around your world.

In having wise counsel, one of the most important factors you should guard yourself against in your world is that of flatterers. Such people only say things that you want to hear and not things that you should hear. Self-complacent men are the ones who attract flatterers in the world because they only want to reinforce their self-complacency. There is no other way of guarding yourself from flatterers except by letting others know the truth does not offend you and that you respect everyone who tells you the truth.

Choose wise people to be your friends and give them the freedom to speak the truth to you, but only of things that you inquire and not anything else. Too much counsel is a bad thing and there should be balance in everything. If you allow others to give you advice that is unsought for in everything, then you would become influenced by so many varying opinions to the point that you cannot act with single-mindedness. You should ask as much as you want about anything and then form your own conclusions.

Those who go to the extreme of being mysterious by consulting with no one end up harming their effectiveness in using mystery. They consult with no one, yet never get their own way in anything. The do not communicate their plans to anyone and so do not receive opinions on them. But once they put them into action, they are hindered by the people around them and thus have to change them. Since they never communicate their plans to those around them, they can’t form any teamwork or cooperation.

Such a person does things one day and undoes them the next. No one ever understands what he wishes or intends to do, and no one can rely on his resolutions. There is a balance between keeping your plans to yourself and revealing them to others. When two shall agree, it shall be done. The place of agreement is the place of power. You have to decide how much of your plans to reveal and to which people you wish to reveal them to. Those people are there to reflect who you are so you can act with clarity.

As a leader, you should always seek for counsel to be given, but only when you wish and not when others wish. In fact, you ought to discourage every one from offering their advice unless you ask for it. You may already know better than most people about what you are doing and chances are when people try telling you what to do when they are not invited to, they may say stupid things to waste your time and distort the clarity you already have in mind. Take control of how others may behave around you.

You should be a constant inquirer, and afterwards a patient listener concerning the things of which you inquired. Also, on learning that anyone, no matter what the reason, has not told you the truth, you should let your anger be felt. It is better for people to say nothing at all than to say something that is a lie. Let others know that you would be more displeased with them not telling the truth than with them telling the truth. Show that they win more favor by telling the truth than by saying things you like to hear.

It is an illusion to think that a wise leader gets his wisdom from the good advisers he has around him instead of through his own ability. It is an undisputable truth that one who is not wise himself will never take good advice, unless by chance he has yielded his affairs entirely to one person who happens to be a very prudent man. In this case, he may be well managed, but it would not be for long because such a manager would in short time take dominion over what he has. The intelligent have more right to lead.

When one who is not experienced takes counsel from more than one, he will never get united counsels, nor will he know how to unite them. Each of the counselors will think of his own interests. The person will not know how to control them or to see through them. Men may prove untrue to you unless they are kept honest by constraint. Therefore it must be inferred that good counsels, wherever they may come from, are born from the wisdom of a leader, and not the wisdom of a leader from good counsels.

Intelligence and freewill are one. To be intelligent, you must be willing to do your own thinking and to go your own way. Once you use your will and decide for yourself, then are you able to relate with others intelligently and obtain their intelligence as well. Your locus of control must be internal and not external. Do not think that you are wise because others make you wise, but rather have the mindset that your wisdom enables you to tap the wisdom of others.
